High quality reproduction technique for paper or textile printing - scanning half-tone images and graduation data retained in electronic image memory

The imaging system, for printing plate mfr., uses a number of half-tone images, each obtained from the original, which are scanned electronically, simultaneous with the scanning of the graduation information held in an electronic image store. A larger number of recording beams is used for recording the half-tone raster points than for the graduation reproduction. Pref. the control information for selective control of each recording beam for each scanning point is obtained by comparing the stored data for this point with that for the surrounding points.
