<p>The device forms a brake on the rope used by mountaineers when climbing rock faces. The device consists of an upper hook (14) which is attached to a strap by a loop (12). The loop is formed by folding the strap and then passing the folded end through four slots (8) in a braking plate (10). A knot is tied at both the free ends (2,4) of the strap. The climbing rope is attached to the upper hook (14) whilst the lower hook connects the braking plate to the climber's safety belt.</p> |
