PURPOSE:To improve the reading accuracy of characters out of slips and the processing efficiency with a slip format registering device, by simply and effectively registering format information on the slips of various formats and using effectively these format information. CONSTITUTION:When the characters of a slip 1 having its unknown format are read by an optical character readers, the input of a gradation image is first carried out via a gradation image input part 2. Then a divided density histogram production part 3 processes said gradation image. When the format information shown by the features of the histogram of the slip 1 is obtained, a format information deciding part 5 is started. The part 5 compares the format information on the slip 1 inputted in the form of image with the format information on each type of slips that is previously registered in a format information memory part 4. Based on this comparison result, the part 5 decides the format of the slip 1. |
