<p>A composite structure comprises (1) a thermoplastic sheet bonded to (2) a rubber-modified nitrile polymer contg. 55-85 wt. % nitrile and 5-30 wt. % synthetic or natural rubber, bonded to (3) a gas filled insulation cellular layer with most cells filled with a halogenated (cyclo)aliphatic hydrocarbon. The foam is pref. polyurethane, the nitrile is pref. (meth)acrylonitrile and the polymer is prepd. from a blend of grafted rubber and a matrix polymer. Structure is used for thermal and acoustic insulation and in certain buoyancy applications. Example are refrigeration construction, boat hulls, panels for recreation vehicles, door and wall panels, headliners fo sea and air vehicles etc. The nitrile polymer presents an effective barrier to the gas in the foam and provides improved impact strength and rigidity in the composite.</p> |
