[Also in Division G1] A capacitor unit forming a compensator in a capacitance gauge system (see Division G1) comprises concentric cylindrical tubes 14, 16 and 18, tubes 14 and 16 forming the plates of the capacitor and tube 18 forming a shield and earth conductor, tube 16 being spaced from tube 18 by radially arranged insulating spacers such as 26 and 38, and tube 14 being independently spaced from tube 18 by radially arranged spacers such as 34 passing through apertures in tube 16. Contaminants on the spacers accordingly do not provide a direct leakage path between the capacitor plates. The capacitor unit is secured to probe 12 including capacitor plates 20, 22 by radial spacers such as 26, 42 and 46. The capacitor unit may alternatively comprise three flat plates. |
