The invention comprises (a) 2-cycloalkylmethylamino-5-halobenzophenones, which are prepared by oxidizing a 2-cycloalkylmethylamino-5-halobenzhydrol with an excess of manganese dioxide, (b) 2-cycloalkylmethylamino-5-halobenzhydrols, which are prepared by reducing a 2-cycloalkylcarbonylamino - 5 - halobenzophenone with an excess of an alkali metal complex hydride followed by aqueous hydrolysis, and (c) 2 - cycloalkylcarbonylamino - 5 - halobenzophenones, which are prepared by treating a 2-amino-5-halobenzophenone dissolved in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran and triethylamine with an equimolar proportion of a cycloalkanecarboxylic acid chloride, followed by refluxing the reaction mixture.
