<p>A thermoplastic sealant for an expansion joint in building constructions comprises (a) 50 parts of a 50-55 EVT tar, (b) 50 parts of an anthracene oil, (c) 10 parts of a nitrile rubber, (d) 7.5 parts of polyvinyl chloride and (e) 182.5 parts of a lime filler. The composition is cheap and shows good adhesion to wet and dry cement or concrete. It has good flexibility and show no flow over the range 10-80 degrees C. Recovery is complete after deformation. Weathering resistance and resistance to salt water are good and marine applications are possible. The abrasion resistance is sufficient to permit use in road construction. Other uses include electrical, thermal and sound insulation.</p> |
