[Also in Division G4] A one-way ratchet device, e.g. a clutch in the drive for a fare indicator (see Division G4), comprises a driving member 1 having internal sawteeth (1a), Fig. 2 (not shown), engaged by pawls 2b on the ends of at least three resilient radially prestressed arms 2a integral with a driven hub 2, the members 1 and 2 being formed of abrasion-proof plastics, and the pawls being evenly distributed around the periphery to engage successively within one tooth pitch and thus, together with flexing of arms 2a, to cushion the engagement. Two such clutches are arranged on a single shaft 3, each being driven by a separate input and the faster one driving the shaft 3 whilst the other overruns. Again, Fig. 3 (not shown), in a one-way clutch/brake combination, a pair of outer members (25), (39) engage pawls on arms (43), (42) extending side by side and integral with a common hub (2) on a shaft (24). The member (39) is fixed to prevent clockwise rotation of the shaft (24), and the member (25) is turned in a clockwise direction by a stepping solenoid (38) and returned by a spring (28) to drive the shaft (24) anticlockwise. |
