PURPOSE:To uniformalize the temperature of irradiated parts and expand the range of irradiation by splitting one laser beam by means of a translucent mirror which reflects part of the laser beam and transmits the rest and a total reflecting mirror which totally reflects the laser beam having transmitted therethrough. CONSTITUTION:The laser beam 12 emitted from a CO2 laser is of a circular shape in section and its energy density is of a Gauss distibution type. This laser beam 12 is split to the part 12a which transmits through a translucent mirror 13 and the part 12b reflected thereby. However, the transmitted portion 12 is also reflected by a total reflecting mirror 14, and both are superposed by a cylindrical concave mirror 15, and the density distribution changes to a double-headed type. The beam is reflected and becomes linear of uniform energy density at the focus position. If the material 16 to be hardened is so moved that its surface is positioned at the focus of the cylindrical concave mirror 15, it is uniformly hardened. |
