Autoxidation during the spray-drying of detergent powders containing major proportions of nonionic surfactants can be reduced by using a copolymer as an antioxidant. The copolymer is formed from dicyclopentadiene and a mixture of 2- and 3-methyl phenols. It is particularly effective with powders containing nonionic surfactants of the alkoxylated alcohol type, for instance C6-C24 primary or secondary alcohols ethoxylated with from 3 to 25 moles of ethylene oxide per mole of alcohol. Preferred amounts of the copolymer are from 0.001 to 0.5% by weight based on the detergent composition.
|
