PURPOSE:To produce an unsaturated copolymer in high efficiency and good reproducibility, by copolymerizing an olefin with an alumina-pretreated 1,4-diene with the aid of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A column having a column diameter/column height ratio of 0.001-5 is packed with alumina, surface area >=50m<2>/g. An alumina-treated 1,4- diene is obtained by passing a 1,4-diene represented by the formula, wherein R' is an 8C or lower alkyl and R<2> and R<3> are each H or an 8C or lower alkyl through the column in a stream of an inert gas and under conditions of a linear velocity of 0.01-1,000cm/min and a temperature of -100-100 deg.C. Then, a 2-12C alpha-olefin is polymerized with said aluminatreated 1,4-diene at a pressure of normal-150kg/ cm<2> and a temperature of 0-250 deg.C in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst. |
