The revolving element of the device consists of the set of compression chambers (11, 12, 13) which are axially aligned. Each chamber has two large sectors with opposite apexes, concentric but of different radii (R,r). Inside this set there is housed a spindle (20), rotationally immobilised and carrying, for each chamber, a vane (24). The ends of the vanes are in contact with the external wall of the compression chambers. When this element revolves, a volume of incompressible fluid is trapped in a closed enclosure, whose available volume is then decreased. The device is used as a hydraulic brake, preferably in conjunction with a double differential in order to produce a speed variator. It may also be used as a motor or pump. <IMAGE>
