A hydraulic motor for operating the brake is controlled by an electro-magnetic valve which responds to the relay so that the speed of a released anchor is stabilized by applying or releasing the brake. An accumulator stores energy for operating the brake motor on failure of the normal supply. The pulses from the speed-detector are also transmitted to a unit for indicating the outboard length of the anchor-chain. The frequencyresponsive relay controls a further relay adapted to energize an alarm. The brake motor may be remotely controlled from the bridge.
