In a regenerative CoppÚe type coke oven having a plurality of burner nozzles 21, 22, 23, 24 arranged at varying heights within vertical heating flues 10, 11, the cross-sectional area of each burner nozzle is greater than the crosssectional area of each rich gas supply passage 19. A distribution of burner nozzle heights, namely, two burner nozzles of different heights within each heating flue, ensures uniform heating of the oven chamber 13. Regenerators 15, disposed beneath the heating flues and the oven chambers 13 and arranged in pairs, supply preheated air for combustion. |
