Composition (wt. %) is: 0.02-0.08 C, 0.10-1.00 Si, 2.3-4.0 Mn, 0.03-0.15 Nb, 0.01-0.10 Al, rest iron and impurities. Preferably, further additions are: 0.01-0.60% Cu, 0.10-1.00 Ni, 0.10-1.00 Cr, 0.10-0.50 Mo, 0.02-0.15 V, 0.01-0.10 Ti, 0.01-0.10 Zr. Steel has high toughness at low temperatures as shown by notched-bar impact test at 0 degree C and temperatures for abrupt drop (of toughness) around - 54 to - 68 degrees C after heat treatment. |
