摘要 PURPOSE:To uniformize the coating diameter of a high-polymer resin as a coating material and to improve the quality and productivity of optical fiber by cooling the optical fiber while moving a force cooler vertically along the optical fiber glass at the time of producing an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber glass 3 formed by heating, melting and drawing an optical fiber base material 1 in a heating furnace 2 is passed through the inside of an optical fiber force cooler 9 and the temp. of the optical fiber glass 3 just before the glass is inserted into a coater 4 is measured by a contactless temp. measuring instrument 10 disposed in the position before, for example, a high-polymer resin coater 4. The optical fiber glass 3 is cooled by moving a lifting machine 12 upward or downward with a computer 11 in accordance with the result thereof until the temp. is uniformized. The temp. of the fiber glass is controlled constant in such a manner. The high-polymer resin is coated by the coater 4 on the optical fiber glass 3 subjected to this temp. control and is cured; thereafter, the high-polymer resin-coated optical fiber 6 is taken up on a take-up 8 via a capstan 7.
