PURPOSE:To facilitate the molding of the positive electrode and equalize the electric characteristics of an alkaline battery, by employing a water-solble cross-linked acrylic resin as the binder of a positive mixture whose main component is silver oxide. CONSTITUTION:A metal case 1 is filled with a positive electrode 2 whose main component is silver oxide, before a metal ring 3 is fixed around the electrode 2, and the electrode 2 is compressed. A zinc negative-electrode 6 is placed in a metal sealing plate 7. Next, a separating film 5, a separator 4 and the negative electrode 6 are placed on the positive electrode 2, in that order. At the same time, an insulating gasket 8 is interposed between the case 1 and the sealing plate 7 to hermetically seal the battery, and the whole constitutes an alkaline battery. The positive electrode 2 is prepared by adding the binder of a water-soluble cross-linked acrylic resin such as a cross-linked sodium polyacrylate to a positive mixture whose main component is either silver oxide or a mixture of silver oxide and a flake graphite, and mixing them. The ratio of the flake graphite to the silver oxide which is expressed in percentages should be 1-5%, and the percentage of the water-soluble cross- linked acrylic resin to the entire positive mixture is preferred to be 0.2-2%. |
