The engine has two rows of in line cylinders set off transversely from the longitudinal centreline of the engine. The valves are arranged in four rows (6,10,8,12) spaced transversely across the engine. The valves are inclined to the vertical in the direction of the inlet and exhaust passages (14,18). All the valves are operated by a common camshaft (21) above the cylinders. The camshaft operates two lines (10,8) of valves directly and the other two lines through rocker arms (25,26). The construction gives gas flows with reduced hydraulic losses and can be made at low cost in a compact space.
