Fire resistant flanged pipe joint seal - has resilient sides with asbestos extensions, compressed against corrugated steel insert

The sealing ring which is compressed between two flanges on two pipe ends has fireproof properties. This ring (5) is of rubber or plastics material with a deep groove (6) all round its outside, and a shallow groove in its inside. Inside the groove is retained an annular insert (4) made as a ring of corrugated steel. The depth of the outer groove is increased by extensions (7) of the sides, made of asbestos or are connected by bolts, they compress the sides of the seal against insert.
