The lock has its bolt (16) moved by an electrometer (19) located in the lock's casing (15). The motor is controlled by an electrical control signal. The bolt has a toothed rod (17) coupled via a reduction gear to the motor's spindle. The bolt together with lock casing can be pivoted manually through 90 degrees with respect to a fixing base plate (10). The motor may be remotely controlled or the control signal may be generated by an electronically-coded key. The advantage lies in the increased security afforded by the lock - which can be controlled from inside or outside.
