The assembly is for tying bales in a baling press by securing one or more straps (2) around the compressed (in 37) bale in the press. The strapping is pulled off a supply roll (1), taken along the bottom of the press and around guides (22,23), and clamped in position (at 7,9) whilst it lies around at least three sides of the bale before being finally tied. The first clamp (7) is arranged near the run-out from the roll whilst the second (9) is positioneo at the top of the press housing (26). A lever provided on the clamp (7) tensions the strap whilst the other end of the strap is held by the second clamp (9).
