The centrifugal coupling which can be used for an inertial braking system, and which can be directly mounted on the drive shaft of an electric motor, has sets of weights carried by a plate attached to the drive shaft as in the main patent. The sides of the set of weights can slope so that they act as wedges against the sides of two plates mounted on the shaft. These weights protrude through openings in the plate, and can slide along a spindle inside each opening. Another design uses one weight with a convex surface, instead of a set of disc shaped weights. Another design uses balls which lock between sloping surfaces.
