Electrode for electrochemical processes consists of a current bearing support of a passivating metal (I) with an activating compsn. of SiO2 and oxides of (I) and Pt-gp. metals, the amts. being 10-90 (10-75, esp. 10-30) (wt.)% SiO2, 5-45, esp. 35-45)% Pt gp. metal oxide and 5-45 (5-45, esp. 35-45)% (I) oxide. The amt. of Pt gp. metal needed is reduced without impairing the electrochemical properties of the electrode or shortening its life.
