Decorative watch face e.g. using precious metal - has decorative layer, intermediate stiffening layer and soft base layer

The watch face has a soft material (46) e.g. gold applied to the upper surface of an intermediate layer (48) of a hard material for providing rigidity. The lower surface of this intermediate layer (48) has a base layer (50) also formed of a soft material. The material (46) applied to the upper surface of the intermediate layer (48) may also coat the side edges of the latter and a further metallised layer (64) may subsequently be applied, covered by a clear coating (66). A hard protective coating may be applied to the base layer (50) on the lower surface of the intermediate layer. The overall thickness of the watch face is between 100 and 300 microns.
