PURPOSE:To take out lasers in desired colors by a method wherein a hollow cathode which emits lasers is made up of small pieces of different metals, these small pieces respectively are excited through an electrical switching circuit, and these excited metals are made to cause transition. CONSTITUTION:An anode and a cathode containing a plurality of different kinds of metals are provided as a hollow cathode in a glass case, and a rare gas is supplied from a supply source into a case to produce metallic vapor from plural kinds of metals of the cathode, and a laser output is taken out of mirrors provided at both ends of the case by exciting atoms of the metallic vapor in the desired state. The cathode is made up of a plurality of small pieces 41, 43, 45 which are arranged on a copper base 39 and changed over with a switch 47. These small pieces 41, 43, 45 respectively are made of different kinds of metals such as silver, copper and gold, connected thermally to the base 39, insulated electrically from each other and from the base 39 as well. The strength and length of transition of the metals are determined by means of relative numbers, and the spattering of the cathode emits lasers of desired colors in the groove 47 of the cathode. |
