1290901 Water-insoluble monoazo dyestuffs CIBA GEIGY AG 6 Nov 1969 [7 Nov 1968] 54501/69 Heading C4P [Also in Division C2] The invention comprises azo dyestuffs which contain no water-solubilizing groups which dissociate to give acids in water, and are of the formula where A is a carbocyclic aryl radical having at least one electron-attracting substituent, or a heterocyclic aromatic radical, X and Y are each, independently, hydrogen, C 1-5 alkyl, C 1-5 alkanoylamino -NHCOH or halogen, Z is acyl and R is optionally substituted C 1-5 alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl. The dyes of Formula I may be prepared by diazotizing amines of formula A-NH 2 and coupling with compounds of Formula III or by reacting a compound of Formula I in which Z is hydrogen with an acylating agent.
