The present invention relates to a machine for untwisting the strands of fibres to obtain slivers of parallel fibres capable of being used or reused for making new strands or other products. The machine according to the invention comprises at least one device for the supply (1) of strands (8) with gripping means (17) delivering the strands one by one to a fault detection device (2) associated with a device (41) for the ejection of defective strands, at least one strand-untwisting head (3), at least one card (4) for combing the fibre slivers obtained after untwisting, and at least one member (5) for the discharge of the fibre slivers. The machine according to the invention is especially suitable for untwisting strands or strings of sisal, but can also be used for untwisting all types of fibre strands.
