Control for producing smooth metal surfaces

Outer and inner guiding planes on flat work pieces, e.g. on sets of guide pushers for business machines, are manufactured by steps: (a) forming of all outer guiding planes on a pre-formed guide pusher; (b) inspection of the guide plane date for a set of work pieces on a programming medium; (c) cutting off of undesired outer guide plane portions in a first machining station controlled by the computer programmed as under (b) in order to produce a partly finished work piece; (d) moving of the partly finished work piece into a second machining station; (e) forming of the inner guide plane on the above workpiece again as instructed by the computer, thus finishing the workpiece; (f) production of the other finished work pieces of subsequent sets according to steps (c), (d), (e).
