PURPOSE:To automatically adjust a position of a girder of a charged control type ink jet printer, by a method wherein electric charge of charged ink particles is detected by means of a girder, and a pulse motor, moving the girder vertically, is controlled by means of said signal. CONSTITUTION:A screw 14, directly coupled to a shaft of a pulse motor 15, is interlocked a flat sheet 13 secured on a side surface of a girder 12 (16), and the girder 12 is moved vertically by means of the pulse motor 15 rotating clockwise and counterclockwise by an instruction signal. Charged ink particles are caused to be flowed without applying deflection voltage, and when the girder 16 (12) catches the ink particles, the motor 15 is rotated counterclockwise by a pulse motor drive circuit 18 detecting said electric charge, whereby the girder 16 is lowered. And then, the drive circuit 18 does not transmit a given number of pulses for rotating the motor 15 clockwise until the girder 16 is positioned lower than an ink particle flying position and the electric charge is caused not to be detected. The girder 16 is moved upward by a given distance, and the girder so moved is set in a position. |
