1285747 Glass fibre-reinforced polystyrene composition ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 12 Dec 1969 [17 Dec 1968] 60781/69 Headings C3P and C3R A glass fibre-reinforced polystyrene composition comprises a uniform mixture of a dispersion of polystyrene in a matrix of at least 1 but less than 100% by weight, based on the weight of polystyrene, of a crystalline polyester having aromatic units in its molecular chain, and 10 to 40% by weight, based on the weight of the composition, of glass fibres covered with polyester and dispersed in the composition. The polyester may be polyethylene terephthalate or polyethylene - 2,2<SP>1</SP>- diphenoxyethane - 4,41- dicarboxylate. The composition may also contain a surfactant which may be polystyrene having carboxyl groups, or carboxy-ester groups in its molecule, or a copolymer of styrene and methacrylic acid, methyl methacrylate, ethyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, or an acrylate, or a polystyrene-polyester block copolymer. The glass fibres may be coated, before dispersion in the composition, with an aminosilane, epoxysilane or methacrylato-chromic chloride in isopropanol. The composition may be made either by blending a melt of polystyrene and the polyester, or by preparing the polyester in the presence of polystyrene, and then in each case mixing in the glass fibres. |
