The strip travels in its longitudinal direction (F) between a lower (53)- and an upper (54)- quenching zone. Air is blown transversely across the strip in both zones (53,54); and the air inlet surrounds lower and upper nozzles (71,72) blowing water into zones (53,54), so an aerosol contg. water droplets travels across the strip. Pipes fitted with water outlet nozzles are also located transversely above and below the strip, so more water can be fed into zones (53,54). The amt. of water used produces a wt. ratio of water to air above 9:1 at the outlet of zones (53,54); and the water droplets are pref. 350-450 microns dia. The pref. quenching machine uses zones (53,54) which increase in depth towards their outlet.
|
