Flame cutting machine for continuously cast billets or slabs - where clamps holding machine on moving slab are close to cutting burners

The machine consists of a trolley (10) which can travel along rails located above a roller track carrying the slab; and trolley (10) is provided with a heat protection skirt (42) which projects downwards. At least one carrier (16) for a flame cutting burner can be driven transversely across trolley (10), i.e. at 90 deg. to the longitudinal axis of the slab. Two vertical pivot shafts (20) pass through the horizontal upper part of skirt (42); and each carries a lever (18) ending in a clamping shoe (24) pressed onto each longitudinal edge of the slab (26). Shafts (20) are each located in bearings, and are rotated through an arc by a jack to move the shoes (24). Trolley (10) can be moved synchronously with the slab; and the arrest of two burners at the edges of the slab can be controlled automatically via FR 78.06935.
