Knitted fabric with figured pile surface - produced by selective needling process

Knitted fabric of natural or synthetic materials is given a figured pile surface by means of a subsequent needling process which selectively raises parts of the surface by punching out fibre or filament ends or loops. The effect can be varied depending, e.g. upon the type of needles and the pattern and depth of needling. The fabric is suitable for use in outerwear, as upholstery fabric, or for other decorative applications.
