Automatic gearbox for vehicle - has intermediate gears mounted on curved shaft meshed through bevel gears

The gearbox consists of a gear-wheel (2) driving the driven gears, all of which are on a common shaft, through a train of intermediate gears. These gears are mounted on a curved shaft and are arranged eccentrically, one above the other. They mesh with each other through bevel gearing . The curved shaft rotates around an axis (1) in a quadrant guide (Fig.2) so that each intermediate gear engages with its corresponding driven gear in turn. The lowest gear in the intermediate train remains constantly in mesh with the driving gear (2) whilst rotating around it. Neutral is obtained by extending the circular movement of the curved shaft so that no intermediate gear is in contact with the driven gears.
