The switching device alternately couples one of several incoming optical fibres to an outgoing one. The end sections of the incoming fibres are held on a support, while the outgoing optical fibre end section is selectively switchable from one to the other incoming sections. The outgoing optical fibre end section (1) is held by a second support (20), the two supports (10,20) being relatively movable in a positive guideway. The first support (10) pref. carries a guide rail, e.g. of fibre material, while the second support is fitted with a groove (21,210), forming a slide seat for the fibrous rail.
