PURPOSE:To provide a long-life discharge lamp as a result of reduced electrode deformation and reduced blackening of the bulb, by forming its electrodes with a sintered material mainly composed of tungsten and containing oxygen in a proportion not higher than a predetermined level. CONSTITUTION:A xenon lamp is constituted in such a way that its arrangement is made by opposing a cathode 2 composed of thorium-tungsten to an anode 3 mainly composed of tungsten in a quartz bulb 1, and xenon gas is enclosed in the bulb 1. The oxygen content of the anode 3 mainly composed of a sintered material principally at a level not higher comprising than 10ppm.
