PURPOSE:To reduce the internal resistance, increase the discharge performance and lengthen the preservation time of an alkaline battery by employing a separator which is made of a block-copolymer of a polyolefin and a polymer of a vinyl compound. CONSTITUTION:A positive case 2 which is filled with a positive mixture 3 containing silver oxide or the like, is placed in a metal exterior case 1 that also serves as a positive terminal. A separator 4 is placed on the positive mixture 3, an electrolyte- holding material 5 is placed on the separator 4, and a gallike negative electrode 6 made of zinc is placed on the material 5. Next, an insulating gasket 8 is fixed around a sealing plate 7 that also serves as a negative terminal, and these two are placed on the negative electrode 6 to hermetically seal the battery, and the whole constitutes an alkaline battery. The separator 4 of such a battery is prepared from a block-copolymer of a polyolefin and a polymer of a vinyl compound. As the former polyolefin, polyethylene, polypropylene, or a copolymer of ethylene and propylene is preferred; as the latter polymer of the vinyl compound, a methacrylate, 4-vinylpyridine or acrylonitrile. |
