<p>The flange (26) which is butt welded to a pipe (29) is correctly aligned before welding by means of a bar (1) with an inbuilt spirit level (33). The bar has a handle (2,3) at each end with a knurled surface (4,5). The bar has a central longitudinal slot to receive two legs (14,15) secured with wing nuts (17,18) to match the holes in the flange (26). The legs have stepped diameters (20,23) to rest on the flange so that its surface is parallel to the bar. The flange is temporarily supported on a piece of wire (40) bent to hairpin shape whilst it is tack welded. The wire is removed before the weld is completed.</p> |
