The thermometer reduces heating costs by avoidance of overheated living or working rooms. The indicator element is pref. in the form of a rotatable indicator or liq. column cooperating with the indicating scale. At least one auxiliary heat sensitive element with an electrical contact (5) is provided. This element is pref. in the form of a bimetal element (4) forming part of a circuit containing a l.e.d. and working in conjunction with another contact temp. The position of at least one of the contacts can be set according to the desired room temp. of the user of the thermometer. The l.e.d. can indicate when the upper temp. is reached.
