Coating compsn. for leather and artificial leather based on polyurethane or coPVC consists of reaction prods. of polyamide-polyureas (I) with a number average mol. wt. of 2000-40,000 (5000-20,000) and 1-5C aldehydes. The compsn. combines the known advantages of polyamides with ready solubility, rapid crosslinking and good storage stability. Its elasticity, surface hardness, wear resistance and feel enhancement are compatible. It is also suitable for coating wood, metal, glass and plastics, as lacquer and for impregnation of fibrous materials, e.g. textiles.
