PURPOSE:To obtain an electrode plate filled with high density active substance havein low electric resistance and excellent in active substance utilization rate by decreasing the fiber diamter of the outer layer portion smaller than that for the inner layer portion of an sintered iron fiber substrate. CONSTITUTION:Iron fibers cut to 2-50mu fiber diameter are distributed in the lower 1/3 portion, iron fibers of 50-1,00mu fiber diameter are distributed in the middle 1/3 portion and iron fibers of 2-50mu fiber diameter are distributed in upper 1/3 portion. The iron fibers thus distributed are pressurized under a pressure, for example, 100-150kg/cm<2> into a predetermined thickness. The press formed products are sintered, for example, at 1,000-1,150 deg.C in a reducing gas stream such as of hydrogen gas to obtain a sintered plate in which the pore diameter is smaller in the outer layer portion than in the inner layer portion. |
