The flat press electrical switch comprises two foils carrying the etched cross mounted electrical contacts, a spacer and the top cover. A colour switch indication is given by using a clear lacquer on one of the foils and back lighting the switch. The top cover (1) has a clear slightly domed centre (13) which may carry an opaque numeral or letter (14). The first clear foil (2) carries the etched bar contact pattern (5,7) on its underside and is located in the sandwich above the lower foil (4) with the cross mounted pattern (6,8) on its upper side. Both foils are separated by a spacer (3) with a cut-out centre (15). The bottom foil may be covered with a clear coloured lacquer. Switch operation is by depressing and therefore deforming the foils so that the electrical contact patterns touch. The switch may be backlit (16).
