PURPOSE:To obtain a lubricating oil additive which exhibits excellent antioxidizing and corrosion-inhibiting action, by a method wherein a sec. alkanolamine is reacted with a reaction product of a polyalkenysuccinic anhydride with a polyalkylene glycol, and the resulting reaction product is reacted with boric acid (or anhydride). CONSTITUTION:A polyalkenylsuccinic ankydride contg. 740C polyalkenyl group is reacted with a polyalkylene glycol of formula I (wherein R is ethylene, propylene; n is 3-20) or a derivative thereof [derived from an alkylenediamine and ethylene oxide; and all hydrogen atoms of the amine are substituted with polyoxyalkylene or radicals of formula II (wherein n is 3-8)] in a molar ratio of the anhydride to the glycol of 1:(1-0.1) at a temp. of 150-230 deg.C to obtain a first intermediate. One mole of the first intermediate is reacted with 0.3-1.0mol of a sec. alkanolamine at a temp. of 150-200 deg.C. Then one mole (based on polyalkenylsuccinic acid moiety) of the resulting reaction product is reacted with 0.3-1.0mol of boric acid (or anhydride) at a temp. of 100-200 deg.C to synthesize the desired lubricating oil additive. |
