NEW MATERIAL:An antitumor mucopolysaccharide having the following characteristics. White to light brown solid; soluble in alkaline water and dimethylsulfoxide, hardly soluble in water, insoluble in methanol, acetone, chloroform, etc.; not dialyzable; elementary analysis (%), C 41.36, H 6.35, N 2.69; positive to anthrone, phenol-sulfuric acid, cysteine-sulfuric acid reactions; the hydrolyzate is positive to anthrone, phenol-sulfuric acid, cysteine-sulfuric acid, and ninhydrin reactions, etc.; the main constituents of the hydrolyzate are glucose and glucosamine; etc. USE:An antitumor agent. PROCESS:Mold belonging to Pestalotia genus, e.g. Pestalotia sp. PK-1 (FERM-P No. 5078), etc. is cultured in a medium of pH3-8, at 20-30 deg.C for 2-10 days. The cells are removed from the medium, and the objective mucopolysaccharide is separated and purified. |
