摘要 <p>PCM data is exchanged in a time sharing mode between two stations (A,B) in both directions over a single cable with a regenerator. The regenerator contains one receiver (E), transmitter (S), store (SP), controller (ST) and a changeover circuit (U). Data in both directions is compressed into blocks whose length plus the max. propagation time equals half a time sharing cycle. A block of data received (E) by the regenerator from the first station (A) is immediately sent (S) to the second station (B). Then the controller (ST) switches the changeover (U) and a block is received from the second station (B) and fed into store (SP) while the previous block is read out and sent (S) to the first station (A). If propagation time is less than the max., the controller (ST) waits until this has elapsed before changing over, so that time sharing cycle time is constant.</p>
