The homopolar generator has at least two stator lamination packs mounted axially behind each other in a magnetic casing and carrying a stator winding, and a rotor divided in parts corresponding to the lamination packs. They have zones of different permeability. Radially magnetised permanent magnets (5) are between the lamination packs (2-4) and the casing (1). Their polarities in adjacent packs are opposite to each other. A stator winding (14) surrounds all the lamination packs (2-4), and rotor zones of equal permeability are spaced by angles corresponding to the stator winding pitch.
