In a spinning or twisting machine, to prevent the overheating of the traveller and of the yarn, and also in order to avoid limiting the speed of the spindle, a yarn winding device is provided, and comprises a static ring (11), a rotating ring (13) and a yarn guide member (21) which is hooked to the rotating body. The said guide member has a flat part (22) of its surface which is designed to bear on a surface (25) of the static body and to exert an effective braking action on the yarn. Another part (23 - 24) of the said guide member is S-shaped to permit the passage of the yarn. <IMAGE>
