The gynaecological examination couch comprises one main unit and a separate end unit. The couch has a series of contoured cushions on the upper surface. The separate end section is mounted on rollers which move on a set of rails running perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the couch. The end section can be moved electrically, pneumatically or hydraulically from a position in line with the main couch to an offset position to facilitate examination of the rectum. The wheeled section may also have a protruding member co-operating with a guide rail built into the body of the couch.
