PURPOSE:To provide a good surface condition to a metal strip in its continuous heat treatment, by using water containing a specified amount of alcohol as a cooling medium. CONSTITUTION:A metal strip is cooled with a cooling medium of water containing 10-90wt% of alcohol, wherein methanol or ethanol is used as alcohol. When the content of alcohol exceeds 10wt%, a good shape is given to a quenched steel strip. A content exceeding 35wt% brightens the surface and a content of more than 50wt% permits the controlling of a temperature at which rapid cooling finishes. In this manner, the use of an alcohol-added water stabilizes boiling films until the temperature of a metal strip is decreased and thereby provides a metal strip having a good surface property without using a spray operation. |
