Hot metal wall thermal shield - has loose woven grass fibre adhering superficially to elastomer layer

The thermal shield is for use typically between a metal pipe handling a hot medium and the environment, and comprises a layer of elastomer material having on its surface bearing against the pipe or wall etc a layer of glass fibre cloth. The cloth (7) is loose-woven, and adheres superficially to the latter of elastomer (6). The shield can be in the form of a cylindrical sleeve, split in the lengthwise direction, and both surfaces of the elastomer layer can be coated with glass fibre cloth. The design allows sufficient oxygenation of the synthetic elastomer material to avoid it hardening under temperatures up to 250 deg.C.
